Last November I bought a used RS4 from a specialist dealer. I paid £35,000 for it. Within 48 hours a serious brake problem developed. The work has cost me £4000. The dealer denied any responsibility. I am suing. As part of the background research I am doing for my solicitor,
I found a website showing a review on the same dealer that had been submitted by somebody unknown to me who bought a car from the same dealer at about the same time. This persons car had had a faulty fuel line repaired very badly. This caused diesel fuel to spurt out all over his hot engine. Once again the dealer denied responsibility.
Given the very dangerous nature of the cars sold by this dealer, is it likely that the police might be interested ?

Sounds more like a trading standards matter.

Agreed, its trading standards and/or DVSA.

Out of curiosity what was the fault exactly? I’m curious as to what cost £4K.

As an advisory for the future I’d suggest only buying expensive and highly complex metal like this from main dealer approved stock. The bulk of expensive cars that slip past them usually have some issue that’s seen them rejected and punted on to another dealer or straight to auction.

Never mind consumer law, it is a criminal offence to sell a dangerous car. Check out the citizen advice web site. If it was truly dangerous the police should be interested....but of course they won't be. Lol

Shouldn't the OP have returned the car to the original dealer to allow them to effect a repair?

Serious bit of kit this, probably has the ceramic brakes to cost this much to fix. Bound to have had a test drive before buying so the car must have stopped OK then?
