Any - Tell DVLA you've sold a vehicle - RichT54

When I have traded in a vehicle in the past I have filled in the appropriate section from the V5 and posted it to the DVLA.

However, I've noticed there is a page on the DVLA website that you can use to notify them online:

https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle

It says "You can’t use this service if you’ve already sent your log book (V5C) by post." so I assume you shouldn't post in the section at all if you use the website.

Does this automatically trigger a refund of the unused part of the vehicle tax, or do you need to claim that separately?

Once you have used the website:

You’ll be sent:

  • an email confirmation (if you gave your email address)
  • a letter confirming you’re no longer the keeper of the vehicle
  • a refund cheque for any full months left on your vehicle tax, calculated from the date DVLA gets your information - if you pay by Direct Debit, it’ll be cancelled automatically

Cheers, thanks for the info Doc.
