Volkswagen Passat - VW Passat vs Vauxhall Astra vs Skoda Octavia - Benny432

Hi, First post here!

I am currently looking at buying a new car and can't decide which, so I thought I would post here and get some help..I am currently looking at 3 options being:

VW Passat 1.9TDI

Vauxhall Astra Estate 1.7CDTI ecoflex (110bhp)

Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI

Which car would you recomend for reliability and MPG? All cars are high mileage due to my budget (max £3000) so is it a given that I will need to spend money on it when I get it (mainly cambelt and waterpump)?

I travel 2 long trips a week on the motorway the rest of the time is on B roads and around town. The MPG on the Astra is best and comes with six speed but how accurate is the MPG? and also how I keep finding conflicting reviews on the MPG on the VW and Skoda...

Drive them all and decide which you like best. No good having the most economical car in the world if you hate it. As for reliability with an older higher mileage car its a lottery. Make is irrelevant, its how its been looked after that matters.
