Ford Focus 1.0 125 Ecoboost - Smell of Petrol - Glasgow26

Hi there

I went into my car today (Ford Focus 65 plate 1.0 125 Ecoboost) - when I was reversing out of my driveway, there was a smell of petrol. There hasn't been any smell of petrol when driving after this or at any other time. Does this smell of petrol when reversing mean there is something wrong with the car?

Sounds like you caught the exhaust gases as you reversed, they run a bit richer on startup and weaken as they heat up.

But if your concerned about it, take it to fords to check it out, for piece of mind as much as anything in case of a problem...

Not had a petrol car since 1993 but smell of petrol while running on choke used to be normal, or at least nothing unusual. Same with modern cold start setups?

Bolt probably has explanation but if it keeps on doing it ask the dealer.

Most likely normal, but check the driveway just in case.

Just have a sniff and check round the filler area, in case petrol is being forced back up the vent for some reason, but even the best running cars can still smell a little bit of petrol from exhaust condensation immediately after a cold start, it usually goes within a few seconds though and unless you get a whiff of it, as in reversing, you won't usually notice it.

Some of us have a better sense of smell than others, mine is very keen possibly helped because i never smoked, some Diesel car fumes especially can have me reaching and choking, you might have an equally keen set of nostrils..:-).

I dont know about anyone else, but I have noticed on these new capless fillers that they dont always seal perfectly, and stay sealed, some let by on occasions.
