Just have a sniff and check round the filler area, in case petrol is being forced back up the vent for some reason, but even the best running cars can still smell a little bit of petrol from exhaust condensation immediately after a cold start, it usually goes within a few seconds though and unless you get a whiff of it, as in reversing, you won't usually notice it.
Some of us have a better sense of smell than others, mine is very keen possibly helped because i never smoked, some Diesel car fumes especially can have me reaching and choking, you might have an equally keen set of nostrils..:-).
