Smart Forfour 1.5 cdi manual - changing my car - used2bsmart

Hello . A little advice is required before I jump in .

Thinking of changing my car for no reason other than i fancy a change .

The two cars on my shopping list are a Citroen c2 vts 1.6 hdi 2007 , with 67000 miles on the clock @ £2300 .

Or a Mitsubishi colt 3door 1.5 manual did 2007 with 84000 miles @£2195

My main goal is reliability , in the 3 years of my smart ownership all she has cost me is one road spring .

So do I change or stay with old faithful and drive her until something major happens .

Thanks in advance

£2000+ for a 9 year old car is a lot.

Citroen & Smart (Mitsubishi build in Holland) do not always get the best write-ups.

I'd plump for a Yaris,

We had an 08 C2VTS HDi, being VTS its manual spec yes?

Ours never gave a moments trouble, but it had regular oil changes a lot more often than schedule suggests, and this engine the 1.6HDi Diesel of doom needs them.

2007 is coming up for a cambelt change i believe at 10 years (check that) and there's not a lot of room in there so get a quote from someone you trust to do the job properly, it also might be lighting the eolys (speeling) additive warning soon and you're friendly local Cit dealer might be pushing you do have a new DPF to go with it when it does...make sure all dasjh warning lights work when the igntion comes on.

Lastly make sure your test drive is on the cars usual routes for you, it has almost no suspension movement and sits on 195/45 x 16 tyres so no give there either, road roar is serious at speed (helps if you soundproof and a search here from one of my thread will tell you more if you wish to) and the ride is best described as firm to dreadful.

It wasn't kept long, to be honest the 1.4HDi is a more owner friendly car all round, no DPF/eolys, sensible tyres wheels and springs, if its not quick enough a crafty remap i'm sure would bring it up to 1.6 standards without all the downsides, very good one fuel, as was the 1.6 but only if kept below 70, above 70 and 1.6 economy plummets which i put down to poor aerodynamics.

I agree with FB though, had we known the Yaris 1.8 SR even existed in its short production run circa 2008/9 we'd have bought one of those instead, and we'd have had it LPG converted for better than Diesel fuel economy.
