Hi

i have been having problems with my battery light staying on, i changed alternator and still on, but the replacement is from vehicle dismattler.

I have checked and repalced the 3 wire plug just in case, the meat of the problem is with plug in, battery is good and checked, inital charge builds up to just under 14v put a load on it dipped head light and rear screen heater power goes down to 12.36v i have watched it for a minute and no change from that.

disconnected the plug alternator then charges at 12.36v and with a load on drops to just over 12v, i am right to say that the alternator is duff. one the light has not gone out and two the voltage just doesn't add to me.

oh and to top it off the regulator on the alternator started to smoke today, so engine went straight off and disconnected the battery.

Last thing my old alternator charged at 12.36v thats why i changed it but stayed the same when i disconnected the alternator plug.

any ideas please i am going to change the alt is there anything else i should look for?

alternators on these are controlled via the power control module,

or ECU.

Not like the old days,

so first thing on the suspect list is the small diameter wire conector in the alternator plug.

any contaminate or exess resistance and it wont charge correctly.

thnx

well i think this alternator is fried to, is was smoking earlier so waiting to get another one delivered if the next one doesn't work, then no more used ones and on to a new one.

going to go into the test mode tomoz on my daxh to see what faults that brings up to
