Mercedes-Benz E-Class W211 - Front suspension spring failure - Potto lad

My 2008 220 E has suffered a front suspension coil spring failure after only 55k miles. The failure was not caused by an accident or pothole. In fact it occured whilst the car was parked on our driveway.

This cannot be considered a normal failure, particularly at such low mileage.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and given that it could have safety implications has anyone had a response from Mercedes regarding their contribution to the cost of repair?

It's quite regular according to the merc forums, probably corrosion in the bottom coil, not helped by owners never hosing the salt off.

Fairly standard problem over most makers. However may be worth asking MB dealer as I believe they offer 7 year warranty on road springs.

Broken road springs is a common problem these days. Just ask any MoT tester!

My E300 Cabriolet was just 9 months old and had under 9000 miles on the clock suffered a similar issue. (I had just driven out the driveway when it happened) MB referred me to the dealership who told me the issue was caused by pot holes! I am an around town driver. Was shocked by the response and MB continually just referred me back to the dealership. £6K insurance claim.

OPs car is 13years old!! Corrosion and pothole damage, probably just made it to the drive and fractured, Frost may have killed it
