Mitsubishi Outlander Diamond 2.2 - oil covered clutch - moist

main dealer replaced the clutch on my 2009 outlander (80k miles) due to slipping under load. Within 300 miles the crank oil seal has failed (they did replace it) covering the DMF and clutch with oil. The dealer now just wants to replace the clutch and not the oil covered DMF...is this correct or should they replace both?

If the DMF has been cleaned properly it should be fine as it's a metal component. Would be mor worried as to why the oil seal failed.

As I understand it a DMF is two pieces of steel connected by either rubber or a sprung mechanism to absorb vibrations and make for a smoother drive. Any rubber in the DMF may have been compromised if contaminated by oil thus it is wise to replace it. If it fails in a few months its another huge bill.

As Skidpan, depends on DMF construction, and how badly contaminated it is.

If no rubber content then cleaning will be enough.

Clutch failure on the original Minis with the Borg & Beck clutch were nearly always due to the crankshaft oil-seal failing. Perhaps Mitsubishi have found a way to replicate this old problem?

Its a PSA unit thats in these perhaps along with Mitsubishi they have found a way of replicating the fault.
