Audi A4 Avant - Missing part on puchase - Oxypoxydrin

I recently purchased an Audi A4 Avant from The Car Shop in Norwich.

The dash-board has been informing my that the Day-time running lights weren't on. I didn't have a problem with that, and used the car as normal. However, after a couple of weeks I went into the menu to turn these lights on, mainly to get rid of the warning. The menu had this option switched on.

We took the car into an Audi garage and they informed us that one of the components that controlled the day-time running lights was missing.

I'm about to go back to The Car Shop, but want to know where I stand legally in this situation.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I guess if you bought a car with Drls, then you are entitled to have them working and should give the selling garage the opportunity to fix them. Not to sure what they mean by missing parts as all the light functions are controlled by one electronic module. So either the drls are missing or the system has not been programmed correctly.hth

Some people hate DRL's and have them deactivated, wonder if this had happened to your car.

Why would anyone deactive the DRL when there is an off option in the lighting menu?

thanks, I did a little bit of internet research, and it would appear the electronics are run from the same board. I wonder what the garage were talking about?

So, I went back to the Audi garage and the missing part is the battery pack that runs the DR lights. The mechanic hinted that this could be because the car had been involved in an accident and then cheaply repaired.

I completed a car theft and write-off check before I bought the car, is there any other way of checking to see if it has been in an accident?

Cheers

A previous owner may well have had a bump into a wall/lamppost/his own gatepost and paid to have it repaired without telling his insurers, in order to preserve his NCD.

If so, only he and the repairer know about it.

Only cars that have been written off will show up on the database. Cars that have had major damage but not sufficient to write them off will not show.

A relatively simple front end bump can wipe out all the lights and if as said above its been repaired on the cheap to protect NCB you will never find out (unless the previous owner fesses up when asked). Even if he did what could you do?

Thanks for all of your replies.

To further the story....... The car had it's service and MOT in July, as well as a 114 point check. The Audi garage noticed that some of the air filters were badly fitted, and there was evidence that the whole front of the bodywork had been removed and then put back on.

Certainly, they told me that the car wouldn't pass it's MOT today, yet it did pass it's MOT in July. The Car Shop are the only people who have had the car in the meantime.

What have they been doing?????

Currently Drls are not part of the mot test.So if one or both are not working then this does not constitute a fail.Sure does sound like the car has had some action at the front end.hth
