Test driving car before full licence arrives - herewego
Just passed my test and need to send my provisional and pass certificate off to the DVLA to get my full licence (I couldn't do it through the examiner as my provisional needs renewing in a couple of days with a new photo)

I have taken photocopies of my provisional licence and pass certificate in case they get lost. I do want to buy a car fairly shortly: will a dealer be happy with this as evidence of being able to drive?

I would suggest asking the dealer concerned. I would imagine the replies would vary from one dealer to another, but would expect most to accept original documents only.

When my son passed his test back in March, it only took a week for the new licence to arrive. Get it sent off quick, 1st class post and whilst you are waiting, do some research on what cars are available. You can still go and have a look over them, some will be good and some won't. When your licence arrives, you may have a shortlist of a couple of cars worth test driving.

Thanks for the advice - have researched lots of cars and got lots of quotes so feel reasonably prepared on that front.

It's just that I have the use of my brother (and his car) this weekend to visit a few dealers so was hoping to be able to act if something caught my eye - will just have to see what they say if it arises.

to be honest, I can't remember ever being asked to see a licence when I have been looking for myself, or gone to look with other people - Not saying you won't get asked, but don't be surprised if they don't even mention it. I guess smaller businesses are more likely to just hand you the keys, main dealers may insist on seeing it etc
