from a purely practical pov, make sure: 1, your choice of wheel fits over the brakes ok, and 2, your new choice of tyre has the same rolling diameter
Did your model come as standard with 17s when it was new, but yours had the optional 18s, or were 18s standard? If the former, it might be an idea to get a set of secondhand standard wheels. You'll be able to say "no" to insurance co's about modifications. The car will be standard.
Have a look in th emanual for tyre pressures - it'll probably give a choice of sizes available.
