Honda C R V 2.2. 2008 ex model - 18 in rim down to 17 in rim - crv8

My tyres are approaching replacement.Can I downsize from 18 in rims to 17 in rims and tyres to achieve a less firm ride and associated smaller tyres save? or would this create problems.

from a purely practical pov, make sure:
1, your choice of wheel fits over the brakes ok, and
2, your new choice of tyre has the same rolling diameter

Did your model come as standard with 17s when it was new, but yours had the optional 18s, or were 18s standard? If the former, it might be an idea to get a set of secondhand standard wheels. You'll be able to say "no" to insurance co's about modifications. The car will be standard.

Have a look in th emanual for tyre pressures - it'll probably give a choice of sizes available.

SE & ES 17" steel/alloys 225 65

EX- 18" alloys 225 60

Option of 19" costing some £2000 IIRC
