Suggestions for 1st Car - Millie86

Hi all, I have recently got my driving licence and started looking for a car to buy. I am not fussy about new or used car. I would really appreciate your advice and suggestions. I work remotely so, the car will not be used for commuting to work. I aim to use it after hours for shopping, road trips, holidays within the GB. I haven't got children, or pets.

Thank you for all your suggestions

Priorities are as follows

- Budget £18k

-Safety

- Reliability

- Fuel economy (within reason)

-Rear and front parking sensors

-Not a SUV or large car at the start but estate is also good.

-Auto

Things I'm undecided on

- Petrol vs hybrid vs PHEV

-Mileage

-New vs Used

Things I don't really care about

- Interior / gadgets/Colour

- Ride / handling

You seems to be keen on an estate, so with that in mind the Toyota Corolla (self charge) hybrid estate springs to mind.

Not sure how much that will cost to insure as a first car, but otherwise its all good. Plenty of interior space, big boot, very good reliability, very good economy*. On top of that, if the car has full Toyota history and you continue that, the warranty runs to 10 years.

Looking at prices on Autotrader, your budget will get you into a 2022 car with less than 50k miles.

*A self charge hybrid system brings most benefits in urban, low speed stop start running. Least benefits are at motorway speeds.

Another vote for a Toyota Corolla. Suzuki swace is almost identical, but has a shorter warranty.
