Can my son drive in the UK on an Australian driving licence?

My son holds a current UK driving licence but he has lived in Australia for 15 Years, is now a citizen of Australia, driving on an Australian driving licence. He is moving to Japan but is visiting the UK for a few weeks and will want to drive our car. The UK licence has his old uk address on and he is not strictly a UK resident. What is the best way to legally proceed so that he can drive our car with our insurers permission please?

The DVLA has provided a tool to check whether you can drive legally in the UK based on your residency status and where you passed your test here: www.gov.uk/driving-nongb-licence
