Unmarked car - Aaronw4322
Hello,

Today I was following a car in a 30 zone which turned into a 40. When we got to the 40 zone both of us started to go above the limit by about 5mph, at this point the car in front flashed blue lights for about 2 seconds dropped back to 40 so I followed. This has got me thinking it was an unmarked police car so with him flashing for a few seconds but not pulling me over would this mean I am likely to get a fine and points coming my way or was it just a warning do you think?

I was following the car quite closely in the 30 zone but they didn't seem to bother about that it was just when we got to a slight bend they put the foot down on the brakes and flashed the lights for a maximum of 5 seconds

Cheers

I would think they were just giving you a friendly warning. I've never heard of police taking down the number of a car behind theirs and then issuing a NIP. If they'd wanted to book you they would surely have signalled for you to stop.

Hopefully, there was definitely no signal to pull over and the lights were only flashed for a couple of seconds

Fingers crossed

Just an informal warning - like an old-fashioned b******ing used to be for us oldies - so use the experience to improve your judgement of speed & distance

I agree, a timely warning. More about your 'tailgating' than speeding I would say. Terrible, but all too common habit. As you enter our village it slows from 40 to 30mph. Which I always do as there are lots of older folk and quite a few young children too. Invariably someone behind does not wish to travel at 30 so they 'tailgate' in an intimidating way. I just slow down to 25 or so. There is no possibilty of overtaking safely so they are stuck. When I get to my left turn they are so close they have stop. The looks I get. Not that I am bothered. But they never seem to get the message that if they stay back the required stopping distance, when I turn left they would not even have to slow down at all, just simply drive on sedately. Simples. Cheers Concrete
