Should Mazda contribute to the cost of repairing my Mazda 6's badly ground pistons?

I have been advised by the dealership I bought the car from new, that my 55-plate Mazda 6 Sport 2.3 petrol falls within a VIN range which is covered by a TSB, stating that some vehicles may experience excessive oil consumption due to badly ground pistons. It would appear that the car is using more oil than the threshold would signify, however how much over is to be monitored between now and the next service, which is approx 5000 miles. This will be the 87,500 mile service. The car has been serviced as per the manufacturer's guidelines at the same dealership. There is no recall that I am aware of and it is suggested that the cost to correct, quoted at approximately £2000, would be mine to bear. Is this true? Surely if the pistons were incorrectly ground from the time the car was built, it had an inherent fault that would eventually create this and therefore is a manufacturing issue and Mazda's to put right?

Yes, that's an admission that the car was never "of satisfactory quality" so, despite the age and mileage there should be a goodwill contribution of at least half the quoted £2000.
