How can I remove rust from my alloy wheels?
For the the last couple of weeks I've heard a scraping noise from the rear brake discs on my Vauxhall Zafira. Today I have removed the wheel and found that the stone guard around the disc was catching. This has been easily rectified but has resulted in a build-up of rusty dust on my alloy wheel. How can I remove this?

Autoglym and Meguiars do alloy wheel cleaners but you have to use them sparingly and be very careful not to damage the lacquer otherwise road salt and water will penetrate and the alloys will start to look scabrous. Do not use an acid based wheel cleaner (many hand car washes do).
