How long should brake discs last?
I recently had my 5 year old Kia Sportage AWD serviced and MoTd and athough it passed I was told that the brake discs were pitted or scored and would have to be replaced soon. Also the pads would need replacing at the same time. The car has only done 29,000 miles. Would you expect that the discs would need replacing after this mileage?

How long a set of brake discs should last depends on a number of factors, including the size and mass of the vehicle. Although we would expect a set of discs to last more than 29,000 miles, the fact that the discs are pitted or scored means they may have been damaged by corrosion. Regular driving helps to keep the surface of the disc clean, so if the vehicle has been parked up for longer periods this may have caused the discs to become damaged, which will then in turn have damaged the pads.
