Goodwill from Volkswagen regarding TSI engine problems
I have a 2010 Mark VI 1.4 TSI Golf. The engine fault light came on suddenly so I took it straight to a Volkswagen garage to be told it needed to strip engine down to check why no compression in chamber 2. Possible piston failure/ valve failure. The car has been long life serviced as recommended only at Volkswagen dealers, but is out of warranty. If this needs major rebuild (as alot of online reports seem to indicate might be needed) , what can I expect Volkswagen to offer in way of goodwill?

This 'German Engine of the Year' has been a disaster. Volkswagen is, of course, aware of it and has been looking after customers. Part of the reason for the failures is the ridiculous LongLife service regime that can destroy timing chain engines after 6 years or so, but this has caught out Volkswgen because in the UK there is an expectation in Sale of Goods Acts and case law that cars will last a "reasonable" time and this is generally taken to be 6 years.
