Golf 1.4 TSI mismatch

I entered an agreement to purchase a new car in early June with a local Volkswagen dealer who had agreed to match the best price offered by a UK dealer via Carwow.co.uk for a Golf Match 1.4 TSI 125PS.

This was the only version of the 1.4 TSI available on the main Volkswagen website and that was the car I was expecting on delivery. The finance PCP calculator prints I had shown the dealer also confirmed this model. Being a bit wary of car dealers in general I also verbally confirmed with the sales manager in person that my car would indeed be the latest specification model.

I picked the car up yesterday and duly drove away after again looking the sales manager in the face and asking him that I had the latest model. Once again he confirmed this.

Today I looked at the handover sheet that came with the vehicle and saw that I have in fact been given the older Golf Match 1.4 TSI 122 PSI engine. I am hoping that all other specifications are the same.

I went straight to the garage to complain about what I considered was a case of deception. The sales manager made every excuse up under the sun even blaming the young girls in admin at one stage. I got nowhere with him or the salesman who sold me the car so I just left and contacted Volkswagen direct with my complaint. That was a waste of time also, they just referred me back to the dealer!

I realise that maybe there is very little difference performance wise between the two engines but I am left feeling somewhat angry over this.

Do you think I am justified and have a cause for complaint or am I over reacting and making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Yes, you can immediately reject the car for a full refund because you did not get what you ordered and what you contracted to buy. Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ The engine of the 122 is EU5. The engine of the 125 is EU6. That is a legitimate reason to reject the 122.
