What can we replace our 2005 Golf and Fiesta with?

We own a 2005 Volkswagen Golf TDI 130 estate with 67,000 miles and a 2005 Fiesta Style Climate with 45,000 miles, both with full dealer service history in silver, in excellent condition. Now in retirement, we want to downsize to one car, preferably an estate for versatility and rearwards vision. Ideally it will have the comfort, performance, drivability and economy of the Golf, but in size somewhere between our two current cars. I note your positive comments about the forthcoming Skoda Rapid Spaceback and the 1.2 TSI with 6-speed manual looks good. I have read elsewhere that the 5-speed gearbox is not as good, which rules out the Fabia estate. What would you advise us to consider? Once we have decided, is it better to sell both cars privately or to put both cars towards a part exchange?

The Skoda Rapid Spaceback makes sense. It's narrower than a Golf or Focus, but with masses of room inside: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/skoda/skoda-rapid-.../. But SEAT is offering the equivalent Toledo at £2500 off and Ibiza FRs, including the ST, at £2000 off: www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/deals/seat-discounts-tol.../.

P/x the Fiesta and use BCA Sure-Sell to dispose of the Golf.
