Is my Jaguar X-Type's pre-existing fault covered by my warranty?
I would like advice on the following. I purchased a 2005 jaguar X-Type 2.0 diesel in April 2011 with a standard three month warranty. Almost immediately I had starting problems with the car. Over the next few months I had to take it in several times to the branch at Aberdeen. First they replaced the starter at no cost as it was within the warranty, and then they put in a new battery at a cost of over £140. Then a new alternator was put in at a reduced cost of £96. I took out a Warranty Direct cover in October but at the same time put the car back into Stratstone because of continued problems. I was then told it needed new injectors at a cost of £1700, which was reduced to £1200.
As I had had four different diagnoses each time the car was put in, I had the car independently diagnosed at a further cost of over £120 and was told it was a faulty fuel pump which needed replacing, with the possibility of also needing new injectors at a combined cost in excess of £2000. I wrote to the manager of Stratsone in Aberdeen over a week ago but have had no response. Have I any recourse of action or have I simply been naive?

The relevant consumer protection law is here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
But you cannot involve Warranty Direct in a claim for a fault that pre-existed taking out the warranty. That would be like taking out fire insurance on a building that was already on fire, then claiming on it.
