Is this insurance company trying to rip us off by charging for 'sundries' after an accident?

My husband hit the front of another car on a mini roundabout. Because he is third party, he said he would pay for the repairs himself. The bill from the insurance company includes a charge for sundries of £118.50. They are unable to tell us what this covers and I feel we may be getting ripped off. We have sent a cheque for the repairs minus this amount and asked them again (having tried at least four times on the phone) for a breakdown of this charge. I don't feel we are being unreasonable but I don't know if it is legal to do this. I have tried Trading Standards and Consumer Direct but they have been unable to help.

£118.50 for sundries does sound a lot. This term usually applies to items too small to warrant putting on the bill separately, such as bulbs, clips, fluids and so on. You should be entitled to have at least an outline of what you're being charged for, even if it's not by the exact unit. Until then it's hard for your or us to tell whether you're being overcharged or not.
