Is our Citroen C4's clutch judder due to the thrust bearing or the DMF?

Our 2008 Citroen Picasso C4 EGS 2.0 16v HDi has always been serviced by Citroen. We have had suffered clutch judder since we bought it in 2009 and the car was returned to the local Citroen dealer on several occasions. This culminated in March 2011 with the removal of the gearbox at 40,000 miles to replace the thrust bearing, under warranty.

Four months later, whilst on holiday in France, the gearbox failed and had to be replaced at a cost of £6000. I had a French expert witness examine the car and he states the dealer who replaced the thrust bearing misdiagnosed the fault and should have replaced the faulty dual mass flywheel. Citroen UK and the local dealer in Uckfield have refused any help. Is dual mass flywheel failure a common problem? I understand that this engine is used in some Fords. Do they give problems?

Either the clutch release thrust bearing or the DMF could have caused the judder, but, of course, the DMF is much more expensive and involves more dismantling to fit. Yes, DMF failure is a common problem on most models fitted with DMFs. I don't know how the evidence of a French expert witness will stand up in a UK court. It will involve some expensive authenticated and legalised translation. You will need a solicitor. After a disaster with the Fiesta, Ford no longer fits fit any of its cars with an automated manual transmission.
