DMF failure on Audi A5 Avant
My three year old Audi A4 Avant ran out of warranty six weeks ago. This month, it's had great trouble knowing what gear it's in. It went in to Audi today who said the clutch is worn out and probably the fly wheel too, but they won't be able to tell if it's wear and tear or a manufacturing fault until they remove all the bits and inspect it.
The labour involved in doing that is the bulk of the clutch and flywheel replacement cost which will be £2200 inc VAT.
My questions are:
a) Is it reasonable to expect my three year old car (20k miles on the clock) to need a new clutch and flywheel?
b) Where would I go for a second opinion and cheaper estimate?
c) If I went elsewhere, would I be able to seek a goodwill payment from Audi? How would I go about doing that please?
Many thanks and Kind regards

Replacing the clutch and DMF should not cost more than £1500. £2200 is ridiculous. But VAG clutches are only warranted for 6 months anyway and it will be very difficult to get Audi to confess to a failed DMF. So your best bet is to hunt around and find an independent VAG specialist who can replace the DMF and clutch for less than £1500.
