Why won't my insurance company quote me for changing my MINI One for a Citroen C1 VTR+?

I am currently in the process of changing my car as, having recently changed jobs, I will be using the train for everyday commuting. I will be changing my Mini One for a Citroen C1 VTR+ but I'm baffled by my insurer's reaction. I currently pay just over £600 for my Mini, I am 22 years old and have four years' no-claims bonus but my current insurer will not even quote me on the Citroen, which is a lower insurance group than the Mini. As I'm 10 months into my current policy year, I stand to lose nearly a year's no-claims bonus.

I cannot help but feel that someone at this company has rated the car as a "hot hatch" due to the VTR+ suffix , when the car is only one litre and runs on three cylinders. As per usual, I can't get to speak to anyone in authority, and wondered if you could shine some light on a problem which has my whole family baffled.

This is a strange one. I've just been onto the insurer's website to get a quote and had no problem whatsoever, so the car is certainly insurable. Give them one more call, explain what's happened and if they still can't help you, look elsewhere. Try the comparison sites and then give the insurers offering the best premiums a ring. Explain to them about the 10 months no-claims you stand to lose unfairly and they may offer to help you out to get your business. You may also find that you save a few quid by changing insurers, too.
