Can I recover the cost of repair on this used car?

A 56 plate Ford Focus bought from Trader required new front brake pads & discs within 3 weeks of purchase. Am I in my rights to expect at least a large contribution towards costs?

I contacted dealer by phone before getting car repaired. He said to get repair done and send him copy of bill and he "would see what he can do" regarding costs.

Since sending bill (with covering letter) there has been various delaying tactics including requiring a copy of MOT (which he supplied new with car) He now says he does not propose any contribution as car had a new MOT when purchased and was working then.

I maintain that he, in theory, had serviced the car prior to collection and should have pointed out the brake pads were virtually worn through.(no mention on MOT form)

The car also came with a third party warranty (only covering engine) which is valid providing servicing is carried out to manufacturers servicing requirements.

The trader has stamped the service book as being serviced at time of purchase.
