What 3 or 4 year old car for high mileages?

I need to replace my 04 plate Fiesta as my job now involves a commute of 500 miles a week. I need a reliable, economical and comfortable hatchback, as I will also need to get a drum kit in the back at weekends.

I would also like, if possible, for the car to have cruise control as most of the time I will be using motorways. I do not know if the new diesel engines with the PDF filters will be OK, or if I should get Petrol. My maximum budget will be £8000.
