Best cars for a back-pain sufferer
My wife suffers a chronic and quite unique lower-back problem, she also drives 25,000 miles a year and finds it hard to remain out of pain for long. Her current car (Volvo S40) has great seats and she has had professional advice as to how best to set the seat for maximum support.
However, she really needs a more upright seating position, allowing a knee angle closer to 90°. The most comfortable vehicle she has driven was my Hi-Lux pick-up, though such a vehicle would not fit with her company car policy. Can you suggest suitable alternatives?
Budget is £35k max, car needs to be automatic. Ride comfort and a bit of poke are more important than razor-sharp handling and bling styling.

I don't agree with this advice because an upright seat concentrates the entire weight of a person's torso on the base of their spine. A semi-reclined seat, on the other hand, channels some of the weight into the seat backrest. A good MPV, such as a Ford S-Max 2.0 Ecoboost Powershift has a good driving position and easy access and egress. 4WD SUVs are higher off the ground, but their cabins are not necessarily higher. But the best of those is the BMW F25 X3 2.0d.
