BMW 1 series start stop is playing up. What could be causing it?

Start stop has stopped working at all over past few weeks. Conditions for operating have been met e.g outside temp and battery fully charged manually. Is this potentially related to the diesel particulate filter. Car has done 50k and otherwise working well, though fuel economy dropped but about the same as would expect during winter anyway.

You might not have been driving far enough to put back what you took out starting the car, accounting for lights, heater, etc and other electricals you have been using.
