How long should a driveshaft last on a BMW 1 Series?

I bought a BMW 118d in June 2014. The last MoT (June 2016) needed two rear tyres and I was told by the garage that the front tyres would soon need changing. I was also informed that they're not run flats, which they were suppose to be.

This month the traction light started flashing and the car juddered to coincide with this. I took it to a local dealership who said new driveshafts, reluctor rings and sensors were needed at a cost of £1500. The car's done 60,000 miles, do driveshafts only last this long?. Should I speak to the selling dealership or just put up and shut up. Advice would be great.

It's more than six years old and you bought it more than two years ago. I don't think the selling dealer has any legal responsibility. Same fault reported once before on 28-10-2012: Both rear driveshafts and reluctor rings of a 139k mile 2004 120d failed, with increasingly frequent DSC warning activation then brake systems systems management failure, a jerky ride and frequent sudden loss of power to wheels. Fixed for £1500 (both driveshafts and sensors) and now drives like new again.
