Who was at fault?

Seeking to turn left at a junction of a lane and an A road, I edge-out of the lane to check that the coast - i.e the A road’s left hand lane in particular- is clear.

The front end of my car is hit by a third party car which is overtaking a slower vehicle and therefore in ‘my' lane.
The overtaking manoeuvre was performed in spite of a sign warning of the lane from which I was attempting to exit.

TP insurer refuses to accept liability and my insurers seem to want to settle 50:50 but in my admittedly biased opinion I do not consider that I have any liability whatsoever.

You emerged into a main road without checking that it was clear both ways. You were looking right when you should have been looking left as well.
