If I put my number plate on retention do I have to remove it from my car immediately?
I am in the process of buying a car and want to put my private number plate on retention prior to part exchanging my current car. The dealership has advised that, after using the DVLA online retention site to retain the plate, I can leave it on my current car and also do not have to inform my insurers of the change, for up to 2 weeks. Is this correct?

You can read the goverment's guidance regarding taking a private plate off a vehicle here - www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbe...f You will note that the guidance includes two points, which state you must put the original number plate back on your vehicle before it can be driven, and you must tell your insurance company about the change.
