Would you recommend the Volvo XC90 or Audi Q7 to replace my BMW 530D?

I currently drive a 2004 BMW 530D that I bought almost two years ago for £11,500. A new arrival in the family necessitates increasing size of the car. I don't like MPVs and am considering the Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7. Both of these seem to be quite pricey, at about £25,000 odd for a good example from a dealer. Which of these, or other, cars do you think would be best (to seat six people plus luggage)? Is it worth paying the premium to buy from a dealer?

The Q7 seems to be more reliable. Chain cam V6 diesel v/s belt cam 5-cylinder diesel. But a Discovery 3 is a better vehicle. That said, if I were you I'd swallow my prejudices. If I wanted a 7-seater that handled like a sports car I'd have an S-Max. If I wanted a big one that could take seven and their luggage I'd go for the new SEAT Alhambra. Most cars are bought more cheaply via a broker such at www.drivethedeal.com
