Why has my 2006 Audi A4 suffered repeated injector failure? Is it a known problem on this model?

I have a 2006 Audi A4 2.0 TDI that has now reached 82,000 miles. In general it has been a very good car. It runs well, is economical, comfortable and well built. The only real issue has been in the last nine months, when the injectors failed at 67,000, 77,000 and 82,000 miles. Each failure has resulted in recovery of the vehicle to my local Audi dealership and a subsequent period of about four days when the vehicle has been repaired under extended warranty. Is this likely to be a bad batch of injectors and something Audi have kept quiet, or just one of the risks of car ownership?

I quizzed N.O. about the service regime of his car and, sure enough, the oil had been changed at approximate 18,000-mile intervals. The camshaft driven PD injectors in his engine are very oil-sensitive, particularly to sludge in oil, so the oil is best changed at least every 10,000 miles and not left to Audi's 'variable' oil change regime using extremely expensive 'Longlife' oil. Audi now seems to be abandoning this because of the damage it has caused and is returning to 10,000 mile oil service intervals.
