Volkswagen Golf DSG dropping out of gear when creeping on an incline
I have a Golf Match 1.6 Tdi 7 speed DSG Bluemotion, bought new 16 months ago. I have what I believe is a serious problem.
The problem is when moving slowly or creeping forward or backwards on an incline e.g. when reverse parking, the car will hold on the accelerator for a few seconds, but then without warning the transmission will completely disengage allowing the car to roll in the opposite direction. The clutch will re-engage with more accelerator but by this time it has already rolled about half a metre.
The car is fitted with the “Hill Hold” and “Stop-Start” features making “two foot” manoeuvring very complicated.
Following several inspections the Dealership initially replaced the gearbox in November 2011 after several consultations with VW UK. The problem was still present on the new box and on a demonstrator car provided by them.
The ball is now back in the dealerships court who are investigating with VW UK.
There is no warning in the Manual of this potentially dangerous problem or in fact any advice as how to manage the situation.
Having viewed various discussion groups, I think the problem may be unique to the DSG 7 spd dry clutch version.
I also believe that VW recalled Golfs with DSG gearboxes (wet version) produced Sept 2008 – August 2009 due to a similar “glitch”

I thank you for the information, but I don't have an answer to this. All I can do is record it and see what further feedback I get. Will record it here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/golf-vi-2...d
