My Skoda with DSG doesn't pull away on hills?
I have owned a Sept 2010 1.6TDI Skoda Octavia with the dry 7 speed DSG gearbox from new.
Currently it has about 44,000 miles on. I like the car "it does what it says on the tin"
However there is a recurring problem with maneuvering on a slope. If, for instance, attempting to pull out uphill from a tight parking space.
The car engages drive, then after starting to creep forward, completely and unexpectedly drops out of gear.
If one depresses the throttle to pick up drive again, the behavior will repeat.
Having noted that my foot had depressed the throttle significantly after several "run-backs", I checked the car with the handbrake, keeping my foot absolutely stationary on the throttle.
I then moved the selector from D into N. Revs which had been holding a steady tick-over speed rose to 2000 or 2500rpm, upon selection of neutral. This WITHOUT moving my foot on the throttle.
After having our car for 5 months (well, 3 full months elapsed) and spending SERIOUS money the car is no different and Skoda says this is a normal operating characteristic?

Yes, the problem is the ECU mapping and a delay from the footbrake light switch to the ECU that are designed to reduce torque on 1st and 2nd gears but can also lead to the problem you describe. Could be that using the parking brake rather than the footbrake to release the car tricks it into working properly.
