I don't want my car written off, what can I do?

I was recently involved in a failure to stop accident in Bradford, where the other driver shot off after appearing to hit me deliberately. He pulled out into me with no lights on and due to my young daughter screaming and shaking in shock I didn't get his number plate.

Due to the fact that my V40 is high mileage as I drive a 500 mile round trip to see my daughter every other week (207,000) they have offered me £1,300 cash, and get the car fixed myself. But their quote for work was £1,600 body work plus a new steering rack they missed the first time they inspected it.

The other option is £1,500 and write car off.

As I maintained it and the MOT in September only highlighted minor corrosion on exhaust mid section, is there any chance of me trying to get a little more or are they been generous already?

The Glass Guide price I checked showed me a figure of £2602 retail and £685 trade and they are quoting their Glass as £750 trade and £2318 retail.

The car isn't worth any more. Trade price is £900 and retail £2,200 with 89k miles. 200k knocks both figures back by £400, so £500 and £1,800. you can probably get it fixed more cheaply using 2nd hand parts.
