Can I drive to the Post Office to tax my vehicle once it has an MoT?

Can I drive to post office for road tax when MoT is passed?

The only time at which it is permissible to drive on the public road without VED is to or from a pre-booked MoT test. We would suggest using the DVLA's online service to tax your vehicle or using public transport to travel to a Post Office, or you run the risk of being stopped by the police.

I had a Lexus SC430 2003 and changed for exactly the same car but a 2008. The tax for the new car is double the price of the the old car. How can the road fund be double for exactly the same car?
