A new car for our retirement

My wife and I are both near retirement and we also want to retire our trusty, but now rusty, 10-year-old Merc 'C' Class saloon - as we find it's getting harder to get into easily!

I like the look of the new BMW X3, but it seems to be in very short supply.

The maximum we could spend is £35k and we will do about 10k miles per year.

We don't like 'people carriers' and we must admit to liking a 'premium' badge! What other "easy access" vehicles really impress you?

Readers today report an 8 month wait for the F25 X3. I presume you want an automatic? If so, the Toyota RAV-4 2.0i Valvematic Multidrive S CVT automatic is actually more fuel efficient and lower in CO2 output than the RAV-4 2.2 diesel automatic. No trouble with diesel particulate filters either.
