Shifting gears

I read with interest your reply to BP in Saturday's Telegraph. Are you suggesting for Swindon production of the Honda Jazz there is a possibility that they might change the auto in the Jazz from I-Shift to CVT? If so it might be worth waiting before I buy the I-Shift..

No CVT. But they are building RHD Jazz at Swindon with 5-speed torque converter automatic transmissions and 1.5 litre engines for the South African market and presumably these could be Type Approved for the UK. The Jazz saloon (called the City) is video tested with this combination at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=363 The Insight hybrid continues to use the CVT box. In answer to a direct question Honda told me it has not recertified Swindon production to get the I-Shift under 121g/km and into the £35 tax bracket as it feels that the only way to do this would be to cheat.
