Handle bores

I was travelling on the M6, at approximately 60 - 65 mph, and was on the bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal, and intended leaving the motorway at the next Junction. As I was about to change to the nearside lane, I checked my nearside mirror to make sure I would not impede the car I had just overtaken. Looking back onto the road I suddenly saw a small girl's bicycle lying in the road about 20 yards in front. Because of the traffic and being on a bridge swerving in either direction was not an option so I braked but could not avoid running over the bicycle. The handlebar penetrated my sump and my car has been taken a Nationwide Crash Repair Centre. Perhaps you will publish this as a warning to car drivers carrying bicycles - PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY ARE SECURELY ATTACHED. This has been a traumatic experience I would not wish on anybody.

Fair warning. Many cycles hanging on the backs of cars look like
insecure loads to me, and sometimes also obscure the car's rear plate which may be intentional as the fine is much lighter than getting done for a few mph over the speed limit. New laws proposed by the Department of Fanatical Twerps will make any altercation with a bicycle wholly the fault of the car, van or truck driver. So we will all have to be on our guard against suicyclists.
