Two months ago I bought a 2006 Grande Punto from a local FIAT dealer. It was 1 owner and low mileage 18,000 miles. I paid extra to have warranty cover for 15 months. I have just had the most dreadful noise on the steering and it appears to be the steering column power steering motor. The garage was initially very helpful ordered the part and contacted the warranty insurer for authorisation. However, after keeping my car for 4 days and an inspection from the insurers I am now told the policy will not cover the repair as it is wear and tear.
Why did it take so long for the company to decide this? The garage
believes it should be covered by the warranty. This is an expensive repair to a car that cost me £5,000 in April. I thought a warranty should cover this? I would welcome your thoughts or knowledge on this matter.

No ifs, no buts. The garage you bought the car from has to replace the steering column and motor or take the car back and give you your money back. That is the law. If the garage does not know the law or pretends not to know the law then tell the proprietor that you will have the car fixed at a FIAT dealer and will sue him for the cost using the Small Claims Track at the County Court. Your local trading standards office should help you in this. See FAQ answer 'Consumer Rights' at www.honestjohn.co.uk
