We are looking to buy a 2002/52 Mercedes E270 CDI Classic with 62,000 miles, or we have sourced an 04 E270 CDI Elegance. Do we need to look for any particular faults with these models? We have been told that they are prone to rust spots.

The 2002 will be a W210, which is a rustbucket. The 2004 will be a W211, which isn't. Both can have severe automatic transmission problems. You need to read the W210 and W211 E Class entries in car-by-car breakdown at www.honestjohn.co.uk
