Ranger than fiction

I recently purchased a Ford Ranger pick-up truck from a dealer for £7k + VAT. It is a 2006 model with 44,000 miles on the clock and I am pleased with the condition, etc. However, the bill of sale states that the warranty is only for 1 month or 1,000 miles, and having read some of your previous letters I am under the impression that I am entitled to 6 months warranty. Is the dealer trying it on? Is that the case, and if so where do I turn to should I be unfortunate enough to experience any major problem after the 1st month or 1,000 miles?

The dealer has to guarantee the vehicle for any defects which could have been present or developing at the time of sale and for 6 months the onus is on him to prove that any defect that does develop was not present or developing when you bought the car. See the FAQ at hjuk.
