All consuming anger

I was interested to read that one of your readers was getting 62.9mpg from his 2002/52 Ford Fiesta diesel. We exchanged our 2002 Fiesta 1.4 diesel for a 2009/58 Fiesta1.4 Zetec TDCi four months ago. Our old Fiesta averaged 60-63mpg, while the new one only does around 53mpg. We have taken this up with the Ford dealer from whom we purchased the car. It was put it on the diagnostic system and no fault found. They have also spoken to Ford Technical Department and we have also taken this up with Ford Customer Relations. The dealer and Ford have said there is nothing that can be done and that the mpg figures are only a guide as the mpg can vary for a number of reasons. While I agree with that, as we live about 30 miles north of Newcastle and travel there about 3 times a week via the A1 and keep to about 60mph, we consider that we should be achieving the quoted fuel economy figure of about 63mpg and which we were getting from our old car. Since we drive about 15,000 miles a year, this lower fuel economy will cost us an additional £200 a year at current fuel prices. We think that a 15% difference is too big and would like to take this further.

Some people have managed to get small claims track court judgements for their perceived loss so far but not for their future loss. So not worth it until you have done more miles.
