Consuming anger
I would like your help/advice. Last September my daughter bought a new Corsa 1.2 Active 5 door, at the time the salesman said the car would get 48 to 60 mpg. The car has covered 4,000 miles and the best mpg has been 36 on a long run and 30 on local runs. She has asked the garage which is the main Vauxhall dealer about these figures and they are saying this is acceptable in which case she would not have bought the car. Having been misled is there anything she can do?

It's pretty obvious that a 1.2 Corsa would never do 60mpg. 50 maybe. 60 never. There have been a few cases on the small claims track of the county court where people have claimed, but all they have been awarded so far is the difference in cost between what they spend and what they should have spent on fuel so far. The figures I have are: 1.2 Petrol 0-60 13.0 seconds; top speed 104mph; combined mpg 48.7 (5.8 l/100km); CO2 emissions 139g/km (Band C petrol: £100pa VED); Emissions Group EU4; Insurance Group 2E. So I don't know where 48 to 60 came from. The salesman may claim he was referring to one of the diesels.
