On HJ's FAQ section on the site regarding "running in a petrol engine". My Ford Ka has now covered 3k miles and I was gonna have the oil & filter changed @ 6k. In the FAQ section it says do not change the oil and filter until the first manufacturer recommended change point (which is 1 year
  • Skoda Rapid Spaceback - Oil change 14 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Skoda rapid spaceback diesel ( 2016 )that I use as a taxi. I have covered 10000 miles in a space of 3 months since the last oil change ( which i used long life oil  ). I was wondering since the miles have been done in such a short space of time, should i bother changing
  • What Oil? 26 Mar 2001 (Forum)
You may have read my post earlier today about winning a new Corsa 12v Expression. I think that the high oil consumption of my Fiesta is partly a result of not changing the oil frequently enough - the car has been used mainly for very short trips, and the new Corsa will be used in much the same way
  • Diesel oil change 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)

  • Oil change interval - cut in half? 26 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Even on my crusty BMW 320d the recommended oil change interval is 13000 miles-plus, and on newer models, much longer. Seems to me like a big 'ask' on the oil, although these diesels use a fully synthetic oil (not cheap). Is there a serious benefit in inserting an extra change e.g. at the half way
  • Gearbox Oil Change - 1993 Metro 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have a 1993 Metro (K series) and I notice that changing the gearbox oil is not mentioned in the service schedule. I have checked the level a few times and oil that dribbles out is nice and clean. When I checked with a Rover dealer, I was told that the oil is no longer changed throughout the live
  • Oil colour 19 May 2003 (Forum)
When the colour of engine oil changes from clear to brown does that mean it\'s absorbed as much muck as possible? The reason I ask is that I change my oil & filter regularly - every 5k to be specific. I rarely use the car for short-distance My oil changes to brown within a matter of weeks

  • Oil changes - when is best? Hot or cold engine? 2 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have always, as per book, changed my engine oil hot. Is there any benefit in changing hot rather than cold, apart from when hot the oil flows quicker?

  • VW Golf Gearbox Oil Change, Oil Brand? 30 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi All I have a VW Golf 1300 81,000 miles Mk2. I am going to change the gearbox oil. I have bought the correct spec oil (Comma 80W/90). If I bought a more expensive oil i.e. Castrol 80W/90 will this improve the gearbox performance and life? Or is there no difference? Thanks Andrew
  • Golf Oil Change 20 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I want to change the oil in my Golf MkV GT 2.0TDI early as I don't think it should stay in for 20k miles/ 2 years. Dealer charge is £60 for long life oil. National Tyres offer Visco 7000 (Duckhams I think) fully synthetic oil and filter change for £25 is this ok for my car? I've done 5k miles
  • oil change 22 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Our 106 diesel has a 6k service interval that we reach every 9 months. It was last serviced 6 months ago and I've noticed the strong trend in advocating interim oil changes between the annual service which leaves me to decide if I should neglect changing the oil for three months or set

I've been filling up my Volvo S40 diesel with 15W-40 since I've got it but I need to change oil and I'm wondering if I should stick with the same viscosity or should I go for 10W-30? Even though its done almost 134k miles, I never have to top up the oil in between oil changes. Do you guys recommend

  • novice: timing chains and oil changes 29 May 2005 (Forum)
I'm seen it said several times now that timing chains thrive on regular oil changes. As a mechanical dunce, I struggle to see the connection. Isn't the chain on the 'outside' of the engine and the oil on the 'inside'? If so, how does the quality of the oil affect the operation of the chain?
