Volkswagen Tiguan (2016 - 2023)
2.0 TDI SCR 150 SEL Bmt DSG7 2WD 5dr SUV
Good quality, practical car but sometimes fails to start
This car replaced a Jaguar XE because we needed something more practical. I actually find the VW 2.0 TDI 150 DSG to be smoother than the Ingenium diesel with 8 speed torque converter, and the performance (if not the handling) is similar. Economy is approx 5mpg worse than I was averaging in the Jag though. Infotainment way better than in the Jag, although I didn't have the 'pro' system they fit now.
Very practical while taking up less space on the road than the Jag, it's ideal family transport.
SEL model comes well equipped with very comfy seats. Really like the active info display and panoramic roof. Mostly high quality interior, but some evidence of cost cutting lower down, and quality of rear door cards is poor for a vehicle costing >£32k.
Negatives:
It has now failed to start twice. First time after stopping to fill up with diesel and the second a cold start first thing in the morning. Can hear starter motor but engine doesn't turn over. After leaving the car for half an hour it started fine, but have now lost confidence in it. Dealer was quick to investigate but no fault codes or obvious issues, so I'm left waiting until it happens again. Looking on the owners forum this has happened to a few other people without an obvious cure.
Only comes with 12 months of breakdown cover. First non-start incident was 11 months after car was delivered, but just over 12 months since dealer registered the car and VW refused to attend. Not impressed.
Washer fluid tank is too small and runs out quickly in winter.
Car drinks ad-blue compared to previous vehicle (assuming tank was full when supplied I've since added 20 litres in 12k miles, so that's 10 litres every 4k)
