Volkswagen Passat CC (2008 - 2012)
1.8 TSI 4dr Coupe
Great blend of economy, luxury, comfort, practicality and looks
I've had this car for nearly 2 months now after switching from an Audi A3 quattro. The CC is a big step up in luxury and it is exceptionally quiet on the go. I deliberately chose the 1.8 petrol over the diesel options as I wanted to avoid the risks of DMF, EGR and other problems that the 2.0 tdi can entail, not to mention turbo issues too which can afflict that engine. The petrol turbo does offer low down torque in a similar way to the tdi, but is smoother and has a greater rev range. Sounds better too.
I find the CC quite practical, with a huge boot (full size spare contained neatly within). My car is equipped with nappa leather, park assist and heated seats, which are nice options. Parking sensors front and rear are a must. Not so impressed with the touch screen radio/CD on the move though, although the sound quality is great. Cannot change CD via the steering wheel buttons it seems.
Economy wise, the trip computer is reporting anything from 37 to 47 mpg. I will calculate the true mpg after a few more fill ups, and I expect it to be slightly lower than reported by the computer. That said, petrol is at least 5p cheaper at the pumps than diesel at the moment, so for me the running costs are comparable to my old A3 tdi as I'm not clocking up mega miles.
The CC is great value for money second hand, maybe due to the lack of a fifth seat? I'm happy with my choice of this over another Audi for example. It's definitely not a common sight on our roads in comparison.
