Overall reliability

A good car, not perfect but covers my needs and is well designed, engineered and built.

I wanted a car to see me through the next 10 years and the Toyota 10 year Warranty (with Service at a Dealer each year) together with Toyota’s reputation filled the bill. I didn’t want a large car but a comfortable one with a reasonable boot - again the Yaris Cross fitted the bill. I like the styling of the front and rear though they don’t seem to go together!
I didn’t want an electric car and a Hybrid seemed a good halfway house and Toyota are the acknowledged kings of full hybrids. A Mild Hybrid didn’t seem to fit the bill at all. All in all it seemed a good choice to replace my 11 year old Alfa Romeo Giulietta so one was ordered in December 2021 afeter 2 test drives. 6 months later it arrived.
The eCVT with power split differential is a marvel and is a very easy automatic. The steering and brakes have a good feel. All the fitments work as you’d expect. LED headlights terrific. The Excel has the light coloured roof lining which we felt was essential.
Never had any auxiliary battery problem which is often raised in forums.
Boot is good size and works well for me with golf clubs etc. Rear seating is comfortable and adequate but no more. The rear door opening is just about ok for us. Why no light in the back? The ride is ok generally on good roads but does pitch a bit on B roads - the repair suspension is not independent like the Alfa and could be better. Fuel consumption is very good and would be better if I did more town work. All in all a good car and we’re very happy with it.
